This calendar focuses on business and community events
of particular interest to Friend and Champion,
with a focus on southern Alameda County.
Sujoy Sarkar, manager of the Chabot College community television station will discuss his work and the “many fantastic projects” prepared in his studio when the Hayward Chamber of Commerce Latino Business Roundtable meets at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 24 in the Balch Pavilion at St. Rose Hospital, 27200 Calaroga Ave. All chamber members and their guests are invited. Sujoy Sarkar leads a team at the 50-year-old station that has begun streaming on the Internet, under Ustream.tv, (search for Chabot College), with programming dedicated to the educational needs of the campus and also the serving the community.
The station has taken on a variety of local projects, such as making training videos for the police and fire departments of Hayward and Fremont. Sarkar also has plans to make high quality original films.
Let’s all join in and give a new Newark business, Aniki’s Express, a grand Newark WELCOME at their Ribbon Cutting and Official Grand Opening on Saturday, February 25th. Owner Robert Aquero has been waiting for this day to give Newark folks a taste of his wonderful sushi, poke bowls and great service!
Join Mayor Al Nagy and other City of Newark and Chamber folk – there’ll be entertainment and a taste of the finest sushi!

Assemblymember Bill Quirk Honors Women of the Year
Susan Ojeda-Cobos has been named the Business Honoree for the 2017 Annual Women of the Year Awards by Assemblymember Bill Quirk.
Susan will be honored in a ceremony on Saturday, March 11 in the Chabot College Event Center, 25555 Hesperian Blvd.

- Helen Kennedy, education honoree
- Jo A. Loss, lifetime achievement honoree.
- Woman of the Year honoree is Monia Shaiq.

‘Grantwriting 101’ at Hayward Nonprofit Alliance
Members of the Hayward Nonprofit Alliance will learn about the science and art of grantwriting at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16 at the Hayward Area Historical Society Museum, 22380 Foothill Blvd.
Dana DeBeaumont of Capitol Advocacy Partners represents interests of the City of Hayward in Washington D.C., and also writes grants and will speak on ‘Grantwriting 101 for Small Nonprofits.’
She has more than 30 years of advocacy, media, and public relations experience. For the past 18 years she has successfully represented a range of issues before Congress and federal agencies. She specializes in helping nonprofits and municipal clients.
Share Your Nonprofit’s News
There are more than 100 nonprofit organizations in the chamber’s Nonprofit Alliance and all members and guests are welcome to attend. Attendees are invited to bring news and handouts to share about their organization’s upcoming events.
It’s nearly time for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church’s annual Spaghetti Feed!
Join us from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, for an evening of food and fun. The festivities will be held in Holland Hall at the church site, 38801 Blacow Rd., Fremont.
FOOD: Four kinds of pasta are on the menu, in addition to Caesar salad, garlic bread, and dessert that includes, of course, tiramisu.
Beer and wine will also be served, for an extra charge.
FUN: The evening’s entertainment includes a silent auction, an ongoing raffle with prizes every 15 minutes, a special kids’ zone, and proceeds benefit HTLC’s ongoing community outreach and service programs, such as George Mark House.

- Prices are $15 per adult,
- $10 per child under 12,
- and kids under 3 eat free.

Hayward Executive Airport Director to Address Latino Business Roundtable
Hayward Executive Airport Director Douglas McNeeley will be the featured presenter at the Hayward Chamber of Commerce Latino Business Roundtable when it meets at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 24 in the Balch Pavilion at St. Rose Hospital, 27200 Calaroga Ave.
A former WWII fighter base, the airport is owned by the City of Hayward and situated on 543 acres with two parallel runways accommodating 450 aircraft, from single-engine airplanes to sophisticated corporate jets. Aviation products and services are provided by 40 support companies.
The airport is self-sufficient and provides 300 jobs and more than $300 million in annual economic benefits. Community services such as emergency medical and law enforcement flights are regularly conducted from the airport.
