This calendar focuses on business and community events
of particular interest to Friend and Champion,
with a focus on southern Alameda County.
We all know that we are supposed to build relationships with our donors. But what does that mean on a day to day basis? And how can you build more relationships without acquiring more donors? And what makes people want to keep giving? All of these are the questions that haunt small and large organizations alike. In this fast paced luncheon presentation, Kim Klein will present practical methods for bringing people into your work and helping them want to stay with you. You will learn what strategies work best and what strategies you may want to leave behind. You will walk away with a plan that will allow you to raise money even in these weird times.

Kim Klein is an internationally known trainer, speaker and author, well known for her ability to deliver information in a practical, down-to-earth and humorous way. She has a wide range of nonprofit experience, having worked as staff and as a volunteer and a board member.
Nonprofit Industry Council
The Fremont Chamber of Commerce (FCC) Non-Profit Industry Council was established to address the unique needs and concerns of professionals in the non-profit industry. The Industry Council offers a variety of workshops, seminars and networking opportunities especially designed to help non-profit professionals achieve success within their organization and the community.
Business Law for Entrepreneurs
From deciding how to structure your business, to hiring your first employee or selecting a business name, this workshop will teach you the basics to start, grow, and protect your company. Topics include:
- A general overview of business entities
- Employment law and contracts
- Commercial leases
- Intellectual property basics (copyrights, trademarks, patents)
This event is held in conjunction with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, Legal Services for Entrepreneurs (www.lccr.com) – this organization provides pro bono (no charge) services to low-income entrepreneurs.
How to Grow Your Business
A panel of attorneys and a business growth advisor will speak on “How to Grow Your Business” at the Hayward Chamber of Commerce Latino Business Roundtable.
Darlene Crane, president of The CraneWorks, and attorneys Roseanne Torres and Martin Caraves will be the presenters on how to create strong legal, financial and managerial foundations for businesses.

How Should Hayward’s Freeway Interchanges be Improved?
County, City Explore Improvement Ideas for
I-880 Interchanges at Whipple Road and Industrial Parkway
The Alameda County Transportation Commission, in partnership with the City of Hayward, will begin studying alternatives to relieve traffic congestion and provide better connectivity for pedestrians and bicyclists at the I-880/Whipple Road and I-880/Industrial Parkway interchanges.
Staff from the Alameda County Transportation Commission and the City of Hayward will be presenting preliminary project information, including conceptual designs, at the upcoming April 24 Hayward City Council Meeting. Attend the meeting to find out more about the project and provide feedback.
